SHIMOGA: The desi art museum built in memory of Jnanpith awardee K V Puttappa is ready to be thrown open to the public. The Rs 50 lakh museum has been built by Kuvempu Prathistana, in coordination with Hampi Kannada University, at Kuppalli near Theerthahalli in Shimoga district, the birthplace of the litterateur.
The museum, modeled on a Malnad house, will showcase the life, tradition, culture and art of Malnad, as depicted by Kuvempu in his works.
Also, it will house more than 800 rare artefacts made of wood, metal, artistic carvings, traditional equipment used by farmers, idols, pictures and rural paintings — which will essentially give glimpses of the life of people in Malnad region. The idea to set up such a museum came up during a seminar held on Kuvempu’s works years ago.
Union minister M Veerappa Moily will inaugurate the museum on December 29.
